Jiří Čížek

Born August 24, 1938 in Prague, Czechoslovakia.

Professor of Applied Mathematics and Chemistry, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Sloan Fellowship (1974). Prize winner of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science (1976). Elected to International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science (1987). Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (1988). Receipient of the gold plaque of J. Heyrovsky for the merit in Chemical Sciences, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1991).

Approximately 125 papers on quantum chemistry.

Important Contributions:

  • Derivation of the equations of coupled cluster theory.
  • Derivation of the criterion for the stability of HF function in quantum chemistry (together with J. Paldus).
  • Algebraic methods in quantum mechanics.
